Pros

Every other Friday off because of a 9/80 schedule. Flexible hours depending on your manager. Security is taken very seriously.

Cons

Parking is awful, if you get to work after 8:00 you’ll have to walk a mile to get to your work area. Pay is high for the area and according to Lockheed “adequate,” but you can make significantly more elsewhere. Facility is really depressing without any type of natural light or windows. Younger software engineers will have a tough time, most of the decisions made on teams come from 20+ years of experience employees with functional programming and poor software design. Lack of younger engineers makes it hard to enjoy being at work. Everything is tied to charging a contract, if there is an event for learning that would be beneficial to you as an employee, you will be forced to do it on your own time and not on company time. Work is not technical enough to keep most young engineers, as my work has become a simple “copy and paste” job without any need of computer science fundamentals.

Pros

9/80 Flex schedule Weekly pay Work life balance is okay but could be better. Sometimes you will have to work weekends. Okay benefits

Cons

Favoritism and lots of covert racism Promotion based on who your close to and who you know. Not based on actual metrics. No bonuses for high performers Company's priority is managers everyone else just passes through the farm. Sucks the creativity and passion out of you Poor decisions by management wastes millions per year Too much politics even for a politician

Pros

This company is good for young engineers recently out of college, as long you get on a project with modern technologies (otherwise, you really are wasting your time/skills). They pay well in the beginning, but one you reach level 3, get out. Management at this company thinks nothing of abusing technical staff to work 60+ hours a week to meet contract deadlines that should never have been agreed to. And once you reach level 4, your peers in the non-military/government world will be making much more than you.

Cons

Very political. Senior technical people got to their positions not because of actual technical skills, but because of politics. A couple that I know run enterprise level Java SOA projects, and they've never written a line of Java code before! A huge wave of older senior managers (who were good) level the company within the last 5 years, and their replacements (VPs and directors) were promoted too far too fast, and are doing a god-awful job. Market share continues to plummet, being lost to smaller more agile companies. And LM has been losing an alarming number of ECP/follow-on contracts, largely due to delivery very low quality products.
