Pros

The work itself can be rewarding and challenging for engineers. Onboarding right from interview process to relocation is very well executed.

Cons

The matrix organization that is touted as the template is not followed here. There is no parallel hierarchy of program manager vs functional manager, essentially the functional manager is simply 3 managerial levels above your program manager. There are many semi-skilled managers at the lower levels that have poor leadership qualities. They will easily castigate technical excellence and producing quality work with a bullying type attitude. It is a big company, but it can feel like there is nothing beyond the immediate manager, while any recourse requires reporting to HR/Ethics which requires documented paper trail of retaliation, not a luxury available to much of the classified work that's done here. Level 1 and level 2 hires straight out of college have the ability to rotate programs and get out of nasty situations this way, but I would not recommend this company for Level 3-5. You need to know how to play politics and stay in the good books with your work to make your immediate managers look great. Not a quality readily available to introvert nerdy types.

Pros

Lockheed Martin is a big company with opportunities everywhere.

Cons

Some of the senior security generalists feel the need to put you down and talk bad behind your back. They are very insecure and therefore make you feel as if your experience isn’t enough to be there. The culture allows theses people to stay in their positions and continue to treat you like a child. The pay is horrible. You could make more money begging on a street corner than taking this position.

Pros

The matching is great, and the work is cool. Good people to have fun with if you’re 25-35~ socially.

Cons

The engineering leadership at the company has a very poor idea of how to handle software jobs. Frankly, working at Lockheed as a software engineer is kind of like actively working for charity. The pay is awful, especially as you get into a mid level position. Performance based promotions are stupidly hard to get, but they’ll give people from other companies $50k starting bonuses. Makes sense, right?
