Pros

Great benifits, although they got rid of the pension plan for new hires and they decreased the tuition reimbursement. But the 401K / vacation and health care are top notch. The are very stable company which is good for these tough times. They also are very fair about relocating you around the country. The work they do is amazing, you'll have a great sense of pride talking with the soldiers about what a difference the company makes in defending our freedom. The CEO is also a great man with great ideas. They are trying to expand into new markets to remain a leader.

Cons

The company is very slow to get things changed. It is run like the military so rank is very important. It is very hard for young people to get respect and promotions. There is a huge number of old employees who do nothing but come to work and collect a check every week. The review process is terrible where they use a bell curve to fit everyone into a certain range based on their peers. They spend way to much time on diversity and not enough on people who can actually do the job. it is very hard to stand out there.

Pros

The best reason to work at Lockheed Martin is that we have a direct impact on the success of armed forces. Our products are used in the global war on terror everyday and they often times are determines whether or not a soldier returns from battle unharmed. There is a great sense of pride in the products we make and the customers we serve and this can be seen from upper management down to the shop floor assembler. Another great reason to work at Lockheed Martin is that in most cases if you are willing to work hard, you can get noticed and rewarded for your efforts. Lockheed Martin is a great place to be for an engineer due to the state of the art products being designed and built as well as the network of 100,000 engineers at LM.

Cons

The main downside to working at Lockheed Martin is the compensation. Despite holding 3 masters degrees and working 70-80 hours per week for the past 2 years, I will still just get a 4 to 5 percent raise this spring. Most people at Lockheed Martin are clock punchers and really have no aspirations to advance their careers. Despite this fact, I continue to work very hard only to be rewarded with an additional 1% or 2% in yearly merit raises. Another downside to Lockheed Martin is that management is slow to promote young people even if they are qualified and work harder than their older counterparts. The culture at Lockheed Martin suggests that you have to have been here forever to know what you are talking about and thus get ahead.

Pros

It is fulfilling to contribute to the defense of the United States. You may have access to technologies and projects that just don't exist in the private sector. Usually there is a good emphasis on work life balance. It is a huge company that has a lot of interesting projects. Lockheed makes missiles, satellites, ships, and the best military jets in the world. The benefits are above average. In general the people you work with are very patriotic and nice. There is a sense of pride in working for Lockheed Martin and you generally won't be ashamed you work for them.

Cons

You will see firsthand how much waste, inefficiency, and fanboy jingoism exists in the defense industry In the non-defense sector Lockheed would be eaten for lunch. Too bloated, too full of itself.
