Pros

I can't complain about the pay, wages are set by the Area Wage Determination (AWD) which is determined by the federal government. Hours worked were very flexible, although I believe this was due to my immediate manager, and not due to the company as a whole.

Cons

Benefits are too expensive, even though AWD allocates an additional $3-something to pay for benefits, I was losing about 40% of my paycheck to insure my family of 3. Information about what was going on was impossible to find, everything I heard was based on the local rumors. Seemed like the company was only concerned about their overall profits.

Pros

Higher than average salaries, strong US parent performance, worked with a few exceptional engineers, pleasant facilities.

Cons

Poor recruitment process - operate a bums on seat policy to demonstrate resourcing up of the projects to customers, regardless of whether that function is required at that time. Leads to long stints in the wrong post, as evidenced by the low staff moral and significantly higher than the UK average turnover for the business as a whole. The electronics function was the poor relation, under respected and not empowered. There was a strong preference by senior management to subcontract even the simplest electronic design activities to its own competitors while the internal electronics design function scratched sound for titbits. The was an exceptionally high turnover of staff from the electronics function in the three months either side of my departure with 5 perms leaving from a core team of 10.
