Pros

The pay is very good. I had a great manager and a positive, safe, professional work place. We where in a high security environment so there were a lot of restrictions on ourselves personally ( understandable ). I worked in Satellite Ops so career you had a job for life as long as the satellite system was active.

Cons

With Satellite Ops, if your satellite system dies out, so does your career. Who/What would hire you if your an expert on XYZ satellite and XYZ satellite system is decommisioned. It's a great place to work, and they look out for their people. Promotion, nope, we had guys in the office at their spots for 15+ years so your cemented into your slot for life.

Pros

It is an okay place to work when times are good. However, the site I worked at tended to over staff to make "sales". Though when the did this they would overrun the contract and would have to make mass cuts...usually around Christmas, nice huh???

Cons

When cuts in personnel come they usually are followed by the hiring of additional managers. "Hey we can't afford you anymore, but we are going to bring someone in at double your salary to sit at there desk and send out vague emails".

Pros

Lockheed Martin offers relatively good salary increases. My salary increased nearly $8000 in 3 years. They are deeply ingrained with the customer they support, so opportunities are good.

Cons

September is nervous time. Managers hire contractors (Indian mostly) as inexpensive, good help, then when September comes around they let them go. Always a very sad time of the year as you get to know these people. They don't so much oblige the customer as they bow to them. Even when our client makes decisions that are detremental, we dare say nothing because of fear of losing the contract even though we've had it for 20 years. We recenlty lost the Analysis, Validation and User Experience portions of the contract. I have to wonder if part of the reason is because we never say 'no' when as a 'consulting' company we need to in order to protect the customer from themselves sometimes. They are unwilling to consider moving into the commercial space even though the government contracts aren't what they used to be and it would be beneficial to the company. I think this may come back to bite them later.
