Pros

The people you work with are literally the only positive part of the experience! Although it is good to use as a stepping stone to the next level, most people use it to progress to assistant merch/assistant buyer before moving on to a better paid role elsewhere within a year.

Cons

Where do I start... Laura Ashley is a very poorly run company, management have been in the same roles for years and years and because of this they are very stuck in their ways and are so out of touch with reality. Any challenge to the way you do things gets instantly shot down, time and time again there has been extremely talented new staff with buckets of fantastic ideas but within a couple of months the constant negative feedback puts out the spark and you become a robot just doing admin work no matter what level you are. Sometimes I felt like there was actually no point in me even turning up with how little I was using my brain! Pointless meetings which should either only last half an hour, or should even just be an email often lasted all day. All in all it is a very draining experience! And that's before I get to the very low pay, no sick pay, no Christmas party, grim head office building and no benefits whatsoever!! My advice to anyone looking at Laura Ashley as a step up is don't do it, hold out a little bit longer for somewhere that might actually care about you and your career!!

Pros

Store management were fair to staff an extent. Discount and Breaks were better than other places in retail. Wonderful Staff who all deserve better.

Cons

Extremely cheap products which are all produced in Asia and sold for a ridiculous mark up solely because it has the Laura Ashley logo or trademark attached. Anyone who has ever worked for Laura Ashley will know the whole company from head office down is an absolute joke. If this was your first job you may not realize it but if you have worked in any other business or company in the retail industry before hand you will understand how poorly this business is being run. Nobody from the CEO down cares about this business. Its whole model is unsustainable and it is a company purely living off a reputation it gained many years ago, which is slowly being eroded by clueless leadership and hierarchy. It is hard to describe in words just how poor this business is. This may sound like a rant from a disgruntled former employee, but I ask of you to witness the absolute shambles of a business from the inside yourself before you decide to disagree with me. Managers are really just paid to turn up on time and leave late and that is all they do. Deep down they know themselves how dreadful this company is. Any constructive criticism or ideas on how to progress the business falls on the deaf ears of head office and the hierarchy. Real promotion is non existent. They never hire managers and instead opt to promote sales leaders into "acting assistant managers" who stay in the same job title they previously held but are expected to do all the managers work without any salary increase or recognition for there work and effort.

Pros

My team and a handful of employees.

Cons

-No pay rises, no bonuses, no staff party, no rewards whatsoever. Moral is so low, depressing going to work everyday - Rude, intimidating management who bully you and who don't know how to run a business, you're treated like school children, and not respected at all. Basically you have to do what management say, despite them being wrong 99% of the time. -The staff discount is pointless because LA is always on sale, which means the brand is always cheapened. The product is also getting worse. - Horrible head office (we're talking no windows, falling apart at the seams, mice) - No one listens or respects anyones opinion despite being an expert in your field - All work is done poorly because no one is rewarded for anything so basically nobody cares about anything. - Half an hour lunch is not long enough to get away from the office considering there is absolutely nothing around. - Staff turnover is HUGE; if you are there for more than 6 months you are considered an old-timer. Please do yourself a favour and do not work for this company!
