Worse Company Ever

Pros

Week off at Christmas, decent insurance

Cons

The list is very long. This company expects you to work long grueling hours and does not reward their employees, especially the revenue generating teams. Bonus are abysmal and the exec leader team lies every year about why bonuses are not paid out at plan. Then they say that "next year will be better" and guess what? It NEVER is, just a different excuse Raises are pathetic, big surprise considering the lack of bonuses each year for the past 10 years. Way too top heavy on senior leadership, who is receiving all of the rewards from the bondage of others. Projects are never staffed properly. Again, let's save money for the executives and work the team at the client site to the bone.

Horrible Company to Work For

Pros

The only thing I can think of is working for a big name recruiting firm. It sounds “impressive” on your resume.

Cons

The environment at the office is great - people are wonderful but the company as a whole is awful. You are expected to be on call 24/7 even though they say you are not - they make you sign a form stating you will report all overtime but then tell you that you can’t work overtime but there’s no possible way to get everything done in 8 hours a day. NO raises ever and bonuses are low - this job is not considered an important role to upper management and they have no idea everything that you manage in this role on a daily basis. You are considered a low level administrative assistant so that they can pay you less and not give raises. I have dealt with inappropriate advances from people in the office and know that if you go to HR or try to stop it you are almost guaranteed to be fired or told you are reading into it so you just have to deal with it. When you work for a busy partner, they work you to the point of exhaustion and will contact you at all hours of the day and night. There is absolutely no work life balance - even when on PTO or vacation you are contacted. They laid off and or furloughed so many amazing employees to save money and the people that are left are doing the work of two or three employees, took a pay cut, and are supposed to get it done all in eight hours a day. Do not work at this company, upper management talks a good game but never follows through and does not care how hard it’s people work - you are just a number to them. They will tell you that you get a performance bonus and even then it’s absolutely pathetic especially because they never give raises. I have never worked for a company that does not give raises yearly - I received perfect scores and remarks on all performance reviews yet never received a raise or an increase in my bonus. On top of pay issues, they will continue to add more to your job and change systems and processes constantly. It always seems like more and more was added to our plates and it was impossible to keep up let alone even keep your head above water. They will hire people with no experience in higher roles and not provide training so then you are left to pick up the slack. There is no system in place and if those in higher positions are taken under a Partners wing, they are basically able to do whatever they want all while being paid more and working less - it is not a team oriented environment. The Project Coordinator is the one working the latest, the longest hours and is paid the least. Do not work here - they will over promise and under deliver which is not what they expect their employees to do for clients but they do it to their own employees.

Pros

Colleagues in the Product/Digital department are genuinely caring and hardworking. Flexible working and autonomy relatively good. If you're a senior professional, might be a good gravy train as they'll pay you obscene amounts and you can feel a sense of ego inflation as those under you do the majority of the work for a pittance.

Cons

I won't go on here as there is too much to say so I'll be succinct. I'll also preface by saying I left on excellent terms and have nothing but respect for my former colleagues, my comments below are aimed at clueless or uncaring senior management. Senior management are in my estimation an aloof and uncaring bunch that have utterly failed to reach their growth targets. A large part of this is due to where they have placed their focus (senior hires and shareholders) and not enough on the large contingent of junior and mid-level employees whom they dangled enticing rewards and growth potential and have completely failed to deliver. Their approach has not worked and in that way I am glad because it did not deserve to. There were also many rumours about the attitude senior managers had with their direct reports and wider team and that type of aggressive and confrontational behaviour is appalling. Have engagement, reward and talent expertise but use none of it internally. Or if they do it's inconsistent. Previous engagement survey was only used with a portion of the UK business, I assume because they were worried about the impact some departments would have on the scores - This is something we advise heavily against when talking to clients but we did it anyway. From what I have heard, nothing has been done off the back of results, mainly because they're so awful they don't know where to start. Pay conversations parrot the same lines. Wait min 2, likely 3 years for promotion, get single figure increase and be told to be grateful for this. Despite going above and beyond in your role, best thing to do is leave and come back in a few years on massively inflated wages. Incredibly demotivating as an exercise. Redundancy round went through recently. Of course, all hush hush but some well respected individuals have left. I'd imagine little was done to salvage their jobs and I have heard rumours part of the redundancies were due to certain individuals being outspoken. Absolutely no sense of direction for the business, particularly Product/Digital. Technology is years behind allowing competitors in all spaces to rise up and take market share. Very unlikely that the tech will catch up and so rely on the excellent relationships that have been built by my former colleagues, however I am sure they will not be rewarded for keeping the ship afloat. Things will only get worse here as motivation levels internally are at an all time low. If you are thinking of joining you are coming into a business with either no direction or a bad direction. Many years ago this was an organisation that you felt a love and joy for. It had its faults but it felt like something worth saving and building. Then Korn Ferry arrived with its brand of American corporatism and has utterly destroyed the heart and soul. There isn't even the warm embrace of a nice paycheck to comfort you as work yourself into a period of stress leave for a bunch of faceless shareholders.
