Pros

I learned so much in the areas of customer service, cash handling and sales techniques that any other position that I has offered me to that point.

Cons

Some of the management did not take on their personal work load as important as they should. They were only very persistent about numbers and meeting goals with corporate management was in the store checking on the the progress management. I also felt that some of the supervisors were not properly trained in the nature of the position that they were hired and were overwhelmed when relaying the new promotional techniques and goals for the week or month to the front end cashiers.

Pros

Associates can be like family. ASM's and Leads always ready to listen.Base pay PLUS 2% commission on appliance sales. Flexible scheduling. Customers WANT to be friendly, BUT......

Cons

The pressure to sign customers up for their "Rewards" program is absurd. Each store has to get X number pf people so associates are given 2 30 minute "shifts" where they must roam the sales floor trying to get customers to sign up. I personally have had people get mad and walk out, because they have been asked 5 or 6 times. Managements response? "It's a condition of your employment" In other words, get them or you are fired. As for the major appliance dept, at least the store I work in, the selection is not conducive to high sales figures. When a customer is putting out $300 and up for something, they do NOT want to be shown a small picture in a book, or online. They want to touch it, open it, press the buttons, turn the knobs etc. KMart owns Sears, but since Sears had appliances LONG before KMart, they get the major displays.

Pros

Great people to work with. All were friendly, but kinda depends on the people you work with. KMART is a great place to work for.

Cons

There wasn't much things to do, but i guess it's expected for a retail store. Since i work at the clothing section.
