Pros

I would have to say that the only pro to working at Kmart is the employee discount you get at Sears.

Cons

You are treated like crap. Always having issues with my paycheck. Not to mention you HAVE to have a bank account or use their paycheck card in order to be paid. As someone who doesn't have a bank account, I was forced to choose the later, which is full of fees and issues. I show up on time, rarely if ever call out, work my whole shift hard, running around to complete the projects they demand be done and then treat me like a cockroach. Do not do overnights at Kmart. You are locked in the entire night, no fresh air, cant leave if you become ill suddenly, and if the power goes out, well grab a flashlight and get back to work.

Pros

The coworkers are very fun to work with.

Cons

I was given a promotion but was never given a raise, while people hired externally were given more compensation for doing the same position. The managers don't understand when you want to take time off for the holidays, and they can be inflexible with hours. I feel as though I am not respected as an employee and not given enough positive reinforcement. The customers can be very difficult to deal with.

Pros

Kmart is a great place to work because they care about your life outside of work, there are many advancement opportunities, and the management is easily accessible. They are extremely flexible, especially for working with students and their school schedules.

Cons

Store level management is not consistent in enforcing and applying company policy. One manager will enforce policy A and other manager won't. Employees who threaten to quit are given pay raises while other everyone else doesn't. Many long-term employees (the ones who worked through the bankrupcty) are fearful of management/job security and will throw co-workers under the bus. Training could be better.
