Pros

Flexible schedule to work around school.

Cons

Minimal pay for hourly employees. If you are able to become a salaried employee, initial pay is good but then raises are minimal to non existent. Also after you become salary, hours become very unreasonable. You have to trade your family life for a steady paycheck. CEO shows no interest in reinvesting into his own company, budget cuts take priority over customer service leaving practically no one in the store to help the customer amongst a staff that is already stretched too thin. Store closings prevent opportunity for advancement in order to make more money to make up for the lack of raises. Medical benefits are awful and combined with the lack of raises/advancement make it practically impossible to have this as a career so you can have a family. In short, a good place to work around your school schedule so you can work towards a career worth having.

Pros

Allowed me to get a wide spectrum of experiences. Worked with great people who have a "we're in this together" attitude as we all were facing the same frustrations.

Cons

A humiliating, and political performance review process. Your review was discussed behind doors by managers from other store locations that do not work with you, therefore, you were at the mercy of individuals who have no real idea about your contributions. If you are at a "low volume" store, you may as well just figure that what you earn is what you will earn for the rest of your career. I had nearly thirty years experience, did everything I was asked, met every deadline, never missed work, met, and exceeded "shrink" goals, and was told that I couldn't get a raise, even though, they hired new members of management "right off the street", with much less experience, and knowledge, and paid them more than I was making.
