Pros

- Medical benefits for part-time employees. - Tasks are pretty simple, basic retail tasks. - 10% discount on nearly everything in the store (aside from alcohol)

Cons

- Literally zero room for promotion, or raises, even after 2 years of employment. - My store managers constantly pestered me to keep looking busy, even if I already finished all of my busy work, instead of letting me simply finish my work and look professional behind the electronics counter for customers who may have questions. - They constantly under-staff the store, which makes it really difficult to let you take a break, because they force you to find somebody to cover the department (which nobody wants to do), yet they also force you to take a break, because legally you have to. - My store managers blamed me for other people stealing stuff from the department, despite the fact that I never realized. They told me I had to be more observant, despite that being the job of loss prevention.

Pros

Good work/life balance, flexible with hours.

Cons

I have never felt like I matter less than when I am working at Kmart. Associates care little about their job and would often just wander off -- generally leaving me to deal with customers. I worked in electronics and often found myself staring down rush hour traffic by myself -- not because they didn't schedule someone to work with me -- but because the person they scheduled had vanished or was off conversing with other associates. Registers are antiquated, they'll freeze up from time to time, sometimes in the middle of a transaction. When that happens, prepare to wait ten minutes while it reboots. Getting an override and a void is also a nightmare hassle, one that I've never seen be such an issue in any other store. Just be prepared, if you're at a cash register and it tells you you need an override, expect to be waiting for a while. Needlessly long receipts. Apparently Kmart is so behind the times they haven't heard about this "going green" thing everyone's been talking about.
