Pros

Some really great people worked here at at various points in time. The Friday after thanksgiving is a paid holiday.

Cons

Overall outlook for this company is very poor. Executives micro-manage their VP's and below. Benefits and pay are below average. Some departments work 6-7 days a week. The company dictates when you will use 1 week of vacation per year. The company contributes less and less to healthcare benefits every year. Driving up employee costs. For a family it is currently less expensive to use Healthcare.gov than to use KU healthcare plan. Annual pay increases are below state average.

Pros

If you really need a paycheck while looking for another job, then this is the place for you!

Cons

CCLC/KCE is a for profit, bottom line company. They are concerned about increasing their enrollment numbers so their budget can be met. With this in mind, the care of the children and the treatment of the teachers is secondary. Licensing is a priority, as it should be; however, the teachers are not. As a current employee, I can attest to the lack of support from my management team, inflated numbers in the classroom in order to cut back on teacher hours, and a push for uniformity over creativity (which is sad considering the word creative is in our company's name).

Big corporation mentality

Pros

Higher pay than in my area.

Cons

Around our center, Directors compete to save money and are recognized by their superiors. As you guessed, that affects our center. Low supplies causes teachers to spend their own money. Inadequate staffing causes teachers to work on their own time and become stress. Ratios are advertised as NAEYC ratios but are not. This corporation has a business mentality and working in the field, having proproganda shoved down your throat is not ideal. One training video suggested that there were many families without childcare and it was our duty to let them know about our center... Um no. It's not my duty to invite more families into a stressful environment just so that knowledge universe can reap the money benefits. My duty is to provide a healthy/safe, meaningful, creative, and loving environment for our children, of course while maintaining the classroom, displaying their work, and working with parents to create a clear communication on how we both should be working with their child.
