Pros

The work was incredibly interesting and the clients were pretty glamorous. A lot of consultancies work on industries such as pharma, healthcare, and financial services, which Vermeer does as well, but Vermeer has a wider range of more "fun" and differentiated clients. You can learn a lot if you apply yourself and ask the right questions.

Cons

The office politics are extremely toxic and the favoritism dictates nearly everything. Aggressive behavior is highly valued, and introverted leaders are scolded for not fitting the mold. Leadership is narcissistic and exploitative. Never in my life have I seen leaders act in such aggressive and condescending ways as I did at Vermeer. People are promoted really quickly, which can be great, but also means that people get promoted before they're ready (and it tends to go to their heads). The hours are pretty insane and random requests come at all times. I've never felt so underappreciated. I'd also say that some of the work and "insights" are stretched... As a client, I wouldn't be pleased with the details of the analytics and other processing that went into the deliverables.

Pros

Being a night owl, the nightshift was perfect for me, as well as having worked with a fantastic group of people!

Cons

Where to start? -The most incompetent management on the planet. A colleague was newly hired and was made redundant a few weeks later because management fancied a little boost in their bonus packages, instead of figuring out ways in which to make Kantar more competitive on the market (apparently, Kantar is super competitive on the market, so management's excuse was complete BS). They claimed that they were pressed on money because we were too expensive, which is a bit of an insult as all analysts were pegged on Living Wages instead of receiving a proper compensation. After we were made redundant, we had to fight for some scraps as compensation. Our jobs were lost to an Indian firm called WiPro, which is ironic because we spent most of our time correcting their tasks WHILE doing our own jobs as analysts. Don't bother applying for jobs at Kantar as they will all be outsourced to India in due time. -Ridiculously low salaries for Analysts (ca 18-20k, which is basically the Living Wage for a job that requires a university degree or two) -Vermin in the building (rats), they're out and about during the night. -Shared desks with day teams means that night teams can't access pedestals or have anywhere to place our items, including coats.

Pros

Camaraderie among junior team. Subsidized booze... etc. Quick promotions but then when you leave the titles aren't transferable, in part because we aren't promoted based on experience but on how much the partners like us. That said you can rise through the ranks absurdly quickly if you put in the time... but then you're a director in your mid-20s at some third-rate "brand consultancy" (market research firm) that no one's ever heard of and you're not even making that much money.

Cons

The partners have no prior industry or consulting experience and as a result are truly incompetent. The clients don't respect us and use us to create massive decks with typically limited internal impact. Our junior clients will take a few of our data points and share with senior leadership, but we are not usually in the room for any real marketing organization's senior meetings. Sexual harassment is a very common occurrence. Every female employee has a story... as do most of the males. The hours are crazy, which is normal for consulting and what most of us signed up for--but the pay is far below industry standard and the work is very poor because again: the partners are clueless. Unhealthy culture where partners find it acceptable to comment on their employees' looks, clothing, wealth. Heavy drug culture as well.
