Pros

Employment includes a tuition waiver and allows for hands on teaching experience form the first semester. The faculty is great and the workload is really manageable.

Cons

The pay could be a bit better but considering you get a tuition waiver it is worth it. Plus I have been able to do freelance work on the side on top of studying fairly easily.

Pros

University as a whole is incredibly welcoming and does feel like a family. Flexible with being able to flex scheduling around life. As long as you are doing your job, you are able to do it with little supervision/micromanagement.

Cons

Not much opportunity for advancement, especially if you don't have a PhD. Depending on your department, the number of students in your caseload can vary dramatically. Pay based on amount of work you do compared to those working outside of higher ed is low.
