Pros

It is an environment of smart people, with a relatively relaxed approach to daily grind, freedom to work remotely if needed. Good corporate citizen, offers many volunteering opportunities and truly believes its Credo (mission statement). Good opportunities to learn the specifics of technology and regulatory implications. Opportunity to get used to real "corporate jungle" environment. Is most useful for somebody at the beginning of the career, as a stepping stone since from here you can go anywhere in the medical industry. Decent pay and benefits and the fact that the products help people makes a big difference in the level of motivation.

Cons

Weak strategic thinking, top heavy, disconnect between top management and middle management.

Pros

J & J has a good reputation and it always sounds impressive when you tell someone that you work for them. Family/work life balance is very important to the corporate culture at J & J. There are many times when I had personal issues to attend to and management is generally very flexible and supportive as long as the quality of your work does not diminish. The benefits package is excellent; not only because of the health insurance but you get dollar for dollar 401k match and a stock bonus every year. You also get discounts on any J & J products.

Cons

typical corporate environment; not much freedom to express a differrence of opinion when it comes to company strategies, it actually feels like that is discouraged. They want you to drink the kool-aid and smile.

Pros

J&J is truly a family oriented company and the people who work there are generally very caring and welcoming to new employees. They understand the work life balance and if that means you have to leave an important meeting for your family that is OK. That is absolutely the best part. Employees and management really do care about the Credo and it is nice to have that connection and vision shared with so many people.

Cons

There are a number of people who are not necessarily that competent that end up getting promoted. There was not that much progress made when it came to improving the company. Management is more concerned with making things look good than actually fixing problems which I found very perturbing. I know it is like that at a lot of places but that doesn't make it acceptable. Teams are always working on the same projects with different goals, numbers, and results, and usually the fruits of the projects don't last more than a couple months, which gets very frustrating as an employee.
