Union, decent pay and lots of overtime when it is busy

Cons

a little clicky. Because it is a union everything is based on seniority and not on work ethic. This means that some employees do not pull their weight

Pros

Very friendly staff willing to welcome new people. Benefits such as a great pension, enhanced sick pay, share scheme, bonus scheme, 75p lunches (two course meal) pool car, BUPA, company car, company phone, good maternity/ paternity pay. Of course, which benefits you get depend on your level. No car, phone, full BUPA or bonuses for entry level. Changeable environment - not always doing the same thing every day (job dependant). Good, modern facility. Senior management are very approachable, nice people.

Cons

It seems very oppressive here despite its pros. You can't listen to music at all (headphones included) or work flexi-time. Not always a chance for progression. A culture of working late (unpaid) which you can be obliged to bend to.

International company which is on the lean side as far as number of employees. This allows individuals to advance as well as learn multiple aspects of the company. Benefits are great.

Cons

People tend to stay a long time at Johnson Matthey so new ideas are sometimes overlooked or you need multiple players to get buy in. Salary compensation is on the low side compared to similar companies depending on where you live.
