Pros

If you’re smart, you can work 20 hours a week and cruise by for the rest of your career. The people you interact with on a day to day basis are very intelligent and kind.

Cons

Corporate cuts headcount every year, so you will never feel a sense of security or stability. Promotions come at 5 years minimum. Raises are measly, usually 1-2% per year (so much less than inflation). You will lose money if you stay with the company over a long period of time. The work environment is highly political. Certain groups and individuals hold a lot of say in what happens are the company. Ties and alliances are important. It’s very toxic. The company does nothing for the employees. There is no welcome merchandise, no holiday party, no happy hours. The cafeteria was removed because it is “too expensive to justify”, despite the recent back-to-office mandate. The company does not care about its employees—only its profits. Most of the blue collar workers in the lab at JADEC are lazy and inefficient, and they produce low quality of work. This is a trait endemic to the people who live in the area that JCI chose to build JADEC. Don’t be fooled by what you see or what JCI says about themselves. You will be a small cog in a giant machine whose work benefits only the shareholders and senior leadership.

Looks better from the outside

Pros

JCI Employees are well compensated both in pay and benefits. They also hold many events for the betterment of the city of Milwaukee. Prestige - people think JCI is a world class company.

Cons

Lack of ethics (despite the annual mandatory exam.) Political. Arrogant. People promoted out of friendships vs. content. Rigid thinking. The JCI way is the only way to do business and if you come from the outside, you'll adapt or grow stagnant. People are also jerked around from position to position and they will put you where they can "use you". The claim to care about their employees, but their actions show otherwise.

Pros

Talented dedicated people doing great work. Great mission - sustainability, life safety - things really to believe in and admire. Teamwork and respect within my group. Really interesting work.

Cons

Constant cuts in budgets and staffing. Budgets usually did not make it past the first month of the fiscal year. Perpetual layoffs and instability with workload devolving upon those left - people are typically covering 2-3 jobs and most teams I worked with were cut by at least half within the last year. Restructure / reorgs are constant, literally. Org never settles long enough between changes to find a groove. As a result of the cuts and pressure, manufacturing, delivery, quality and service delivery were all suffering. I saw very low morale and a sense of powerlessness across the global teams I interacted with. People I knew felt that performance is irrelevant and you'll be dropped at any moment to meet a number no matter how good you are or how much work you were covering.
