Pros

They have focus that centers on safety. Certain managers are genuinely nice and care for their people and subcontractors.

Cons

Jacobs frequently fills highly technical positions with unskilled personnel and pays their skilled personnel well below average. This is not obvious until you're neck deep in the work. There are also about 4 levels of reporting so if you have a weekly report, it's going to be scrutinized several times before you ever submit it.

Pros

-Working onsite as government contractors lets us experience the relaxed federal work environment -Able to "clock out" at 40 hours or get OT due to contract guidelines -Health insurance package is about as good as they come, but is consequently fairly expensive

Cons

-Overall low morale due to past layoffs and continual cost cutting -Easily replaceable employees (early and mid career) tend to make well below industry average -Internal promotions and raises are rare, people are worked increasingly hard for a few years until they have to leave to get paid what they're worth -Most benefits besides health are below industry standard. Especially the new PTO system and the layoff and buyout packages. -Poor layoff practices, showed disrespect for employees. Company downplayed or hid ominous information to prevent employees from looking for other employment. -Nearly everyone is restricted to a "desk job" to avoid safety risk. Engineers and scientists want to get their hands dirty sometimes. -It seems like they don't trust employees and we are frequently treated like children to be lead around by the hand in all aspects of the job -Poor at utilizing employees skills, workers are crudely matched into jobs with few opportunities to expand. No opportunities to utilize cross-discipline skills.

Pros

Good Engineering. People work hard out of pride of performance. Salaries are as good as anyone's in town for similar work. Flexible hours.

Cons

Management has no understanding of project-management-process (PMP) or proper execution of a job. Clients are consistently dissatisfied when the cost is considerably higher and schedule is considerably longer than what was bid. No change control whatsoever. Management consistently underbids work, then blames engineers for non-performance at the end of the job. Makes for distrust and bad team dynamics.
