Pros
Excellent awareness of safety. Flexible work hours. Decent company name to have on CV. Diverse portfolio of business sectors they provide services to. Good spread of geographical regions they have a presence in.
Cons
Pay is extremely poor in the UK. Appraisals aren't worth the paper they are written on. You will do amazing work during the year but your 1st and 2nd line managers will ensure they input average details and rankings into the system to ensure you don't stand out. Cronyism is the order of the day. They are experts at reporting upwards. Army of over 55 year old line managers that have had a vice grip on their positions for 10-15+ years. During supposed "reorganisations", they get shuffled around but sack even apprentices. If you push enough, they might give you a chance to do career advancing work but line managers will ensure your pay and formal promotion is stalled. This is true especially if you came in on the graduate scheme. If you contact HR for help, they will direct you to the SAME line managers. They do this to frustrate you to leave while legally covering their arses. If you try to persevere, all your ambition and morale will be destroyed. I regret working for Jacobs. Company values are simply to boost company image to the public, increase stock value and win work. These observations are a consensus amongst my colleagues in the main UK locations (I.e. Reading, Manchester and so on) and appear to have been happening long before I joined 5 years ago. I'm surprised a company that does business this way is still around.
