Warning: this firm can seriously harm your career

Pros

- Strong brand name on your cv. - Base salary in line with other banks - Free coffee and water in the kitchen

Cons

- Uninspiring and morally weak management, obsessed with self-preservation/self promotion. Will not hesitate to give you the shaft if it means furthering their own careers. - Internal mobility trumpeted by the firm, but the reality for the rank-and-file is stagnation in the same job year upon year. - Rigged employee appraisal system. Corrupt promotion process. Forced stack ranking. Skills and experience count for nothing; brown-nosing counts for everything.

Lip service

Pros

The canteen is nice. There is a siege mentality which means colleagues gel well on a personal basis. There are global opportunities if your face fits.

Cons

Management pays lip service to people development. Objectives even if set are ignored and have no impact on "pay for performance" no pay rises for certain levels for years, jobs offered and rescinded, incompetent and damaging staff left in place. There is no overall feeling of "pulling together" for one goal. Compliance focuses on the wrong things.

So glad I am not there anymore

Pros

Perfect for someone who wants to work 10 hour minimum days, come home depressed, tired and hungry. Some people love that kind of grind, and if you do, JP Morgan is your place. Decent/good base salary and a pretty good bonus, but not worth the constant state of depression at the end of each day. 4 weeks vacation but no chance you'll ever get to use it all.

Cons

Where do I start? It's like a bunch of chickens running around with their heads cut off at all times. Constantly trying to keep your head above water as the work keeps piling up and never stops. If you don't drink the kool-aid, they will let you go quickly. Do yourself a favor and just don't bother working here.
