Pros

Good client exposure (domestic and international)

Cons

Choose your manager before interview/joining. There is this particular RD who has history of being highly insensitive and inhumane, people leave within an year under her. Try to enquire beforehand to choose what you are getting into. It may sound like manageable at the time of the interviewed because it is played like that, but soon after you will realise the consequences. Because of micromanagement demonstrated by this manager, learning opportunities are limited. You will not be motivated to work here because you will never be good enough for them. Its like a factory, quality is not concentrated on- just deliver reports in a row is the business model here.

Pros

SMX has all the benefits of working for a large established market research firm--world-class clients, travel opportunities, good salary & benefits, and nice office conditions with fun perks. But as a younger branch of the company, it also has the agility of a small business, including: ability to be creative in research, opportunities to customize your position to fit your goals, and unlimited potential for future growth. The office environment is AMAZING - I've never worked with colleagues or leadership I've respected, trusted, and enjoyed more. We are genuinely a family who will always pitch in to help each other, and enjoys spending time brainstorming, networking, and socializing with one another. If you aren't formally trained in market research but have a curious mind and passion for the industry, this is a great place to start--many of the most successful employees do not come from traditional research backgrounds, and training programs are well-developed with peer resources to help you learn. The work is also extremely interesting--you have the opportunity to lead large-scale research projects for major global companies, and there is enough variety in industries/topics we study to never get bored.

Cons

If you haven't worked in market research/agency life before, the hours may feel unpredictable and overwhelming at first. It's all about balance and knowing when to put in the extra time, when to ask for help, and when to take advantage of a light day to head home early. If you are someone who enjoys flexibility in work, this unpredictability shouldn't bother you once you get used to it (it typically doesn't bother me). But please do not take this job and expect a 9 to 5 every day, as that will not make you, your colleagues, or your clients happy.
