Pros

If you really don't go and beg for work, you can just sit in a corner doing nothing all day and you will still get paid. Management will ignore any unacceptable behavior as long as you make money for the company.

Cons

I spend over 6 months doing "ABSOLUTELY" nothing before I was provided with any sort of training. Management have no clue of what they do. I had to go begging for any sort of work or training. There were days where I literally fell asleep staring at my laptop all day but having nothing to do. Management has zero knowledge about engineering procedures and values. "Experienced" (old fashioned) engineers refuse to adopt to new engineering requirements and management never takes any action against this. Use too many short cuts to increase revenue and by-pass standard requirements.

Not a bad place overall

Pros

Large, growing, stable, global company

Cons

They promote a lot of people from within the company if they are ambitious and willing to work tons of hours. Just because someone is good at sales, does not mean that they are a good leader. Many of the mid level management do not know how to support their people. Base salary is quite a bit lower than the competition

Poor communicator and very complex political play.

Pros

Good place to learn and build your experience in compliance certification. It is a good company to gain exposure to manufacturers which can be used to network to gain your next employment.

Cons

For a $3 billion company, it is ridiculous that Intertek does not have a cross function enterprise software. Every department uses different home brewed software and sometimes each department uses multiple systems and manual excel sheets when clearly a more automated software are available at a very reasonable cost. If you have to work for Intertek, make sure you network with the right people. Learn how the politics work and side with them. If not, you will constantly need to justify your work.
