Pros

My work-life in the 11 months I've been with the IDF have been quite unique. Having owned my own business for more than 9 years, I enjoy seeing that the IDF team has an owner's mindset meaning that my colleagues take responsibility for their work, which is quite unusual (in the positive sense). Being a part of a high performance team is a privilege and I feel that I have learned new skills and new ways of cooperating, something which I can use both in professional life as well in my personal one. I also enjoy the team trip that we've just come home from. Given my background, it made sense that I was the right person to organize the trip and it was a pleasure to see how everybody came together and got to know each other, which is very refreshing, since we are all usually doing remote work from our homes. During the team trip, there was one time at a restaurant, when people were laughing so hard that tears were rolling down their faces. It's really unique to have a company culture where people have so much fun together and are so committed to our mission at the same time.

Cons

At the beginning it was difficult to adjust to the fact that my colleagues were merely faces on Skype calls. Having met them in Budapest made it a whole lot easier to connect with them and appreciate their warmth and professionalism.

Thanks sooooo much for your positive review. It was indeed an absolute blast to be in Budapest. Thanks for your ultra-hard work in arranging it. But wait.... whale watching... why haven't we thought of that? We'll start the planning immediately! ;-)

Pros

- Lots of opportunities to learn and grow - I spend all my time on meaningful work and don’t waste time - High level of trust from management – and in return they of course also expect high ambitions, performance, and self-discipline from me - I’m judged by my work, not my ability to play the office game - No bureaucracy at all. No long-winded decision processes - Fantastic team-trips - I feel valued, appreciated and cared for - I have no commute. I invest that time in learning and improving instead - Colleagues are ambitious, smart and self-motivated – and they expect the same from me - We have an informal work culture – with lots of fun on the channels and in meetings :-)

Cons

- It took lots of discipline and willpower for me to begin working remotely. - I had a few arguments with my wife because she did not understand that she must not disturb me at all – even when I work from home. I had to tell her that if she disturbed me – even when I work at home – I would also start to suddenly show up at her office and disturb her in front of her colleagues. She finally understood that it’s not possible to have a remote job – unless you take it just as seriously (or more seriously) than an office-based job. - I miss having colleagues to meet with physically (apart from the team-trips).

Thanks so much for your review - and for taking the time to write it! And thanks so much for your positive words - they really mean a lot! Great analogy to how weird it would be if someone showed up in a "real" office and disturbed you. We laughed when we read it :-) We're glad you got the "do not disturb" sign on your office door to work for you - and that you're at peace with your wife ;-)

Becoming effective

Pros

Our company provides some of the best UX design courses in the world. And since I am in love with UX design, I’m also in love with my work :-) The whole organization is built around the goal of raising the quality of design education. I am happy to say that this philosophy also applies to the people working there. In my 4 years of working here, I feel that I have grown both professionally and personally. We put a lot of effort into productivity-increasing methods/initiatives/work processes/etc. I have noticed how this has influenced me on a personal level. I get things done much faster in my personal life. The ability to block out irrelevant things and interruptions from my life means that I now have much more time to spend with my husband and kids.

Cons

It was very difficult for me to get used to the fact that I had to work from home while hearing my kids play just outside my office door, without me being able to join them. So I decided to start working from a shared office space and that works much better for me.

I appreciate your review since you raise one of the subjects we are passionate about… productivity. When someone is productive and in flow, their endorphins will give a wonderful feeling of clarity, confidence, and competence. Productivity is the opposite of stress. Productivity is about being in flow - and loving it :-)
