Pros

Flexibility, work-life balance, strong technical community, ability for an individual to make a difference (for a large organization!) Good salary and benefits (grass isn't greener when you check out other companies). Also, you can have a long, interesting career at IBM by moving around to different divisions, specializing in industries, etc. if you want change (I've been here 10+ years and never thought I would last that long).

Cons

A VERY large organization that can be overwhelming when you are new. Some of the senior management seems clueless and you have to wonder how they got to where they are (must be related to someone at the top!) I think IBM does a good job of recognizing top performers. Average performers are usually the ones that make the most noise, at least in my division.

Pros

IBM has a lot of neat products, exciting innovators, and fantastic teams. We get to be on the bleeding edge of innovation every day. Things evolve quickly, and the pace is exhiliarting. We have many wonderful benefits options, 401k, discounted stock, pension, lots of days off, and many team outings. It's very family friendly, and management encourages us to get personally involved in our communities.

Cons

Bureacracy, red-tape. Inability to change. Pay. Our commissions system is completely messed up. It's embarassing how wrong our data is. We spend as much time adhering to process as we do to actually selling to customers.

Pros

It is a good place for young people to start a career and get good training as long as there is a plan to leave the business within 5 or 6 years. Employees in the sales and marketing professions can gain significant good contacts to move into other businesses as they grow their skills.

Cons

IBM discriminates against white males, and in particular, those over 40 years old. It is clearly a supporter of reverse discrimination. All diversity groups are protected and nurtured except white males over 40. It's a disgrace and causes many roles to be filled with people of lesser skills in order to minimize the role of white males in the workplace.
