Pros

If you are a go-getter and pro-active about advancing your career, you will climb the ladder. A key to advancement is working cross team and with management several tiers above you. Most of the time you can pick your hours and work from home, extremely flexible.

Cons

There is so much entrenched bureaucracy, sometimes it makes you want to scream. There are definitely glass ceilings everywhere and you have to know how to break through them or sidestep them. Make sure to negotiate a good salary. Every person is different and has a different salary even if you are the same band level. IBM runs on strict margins, so money can be tight and even as a high performer you often wonder if you'll be cut in the next round of layoffs.

Pros

Vast intellectual growth potential, deep investment in staff education, large room to move laterally within the company, stable company, good business vision, bleeding edge technology, good internal competition

Cons

Large corporate feel, can inhibit innovation due by beholding to large customer base (not necessarily always a bad thing), sometimes bad internal competition can lead to knowledge hoarding

Pros

Benefits are wonderful. Lots of job security once you're in and doing well. They keep you till your old. Pay is pretty competitive. Team leaders are brilliant people.

Cons

Extremely bureaucratic and political. You work with some developers who aren't the sharpest at their game, but surprisingly no one gets let go. Some code so slowly or use outdated tools it's amazing anything ends up working. Products ship with many deferred defects because some developers can't get their work done.
