Pros

IBM fully supports diversity in the workplace. It has strong programs in place to promote women and minorities. People managers are given wide latitude to deal with personnel problems and to work with their direct reports in resolving issues.

Cons

It's very big. Because of the number of people and the 'layers' required to manage an organization as big as IBM, it's sometimes difficult to find the right person to talk to. It can be difficult to navigate through the processes to get assistance with issues related to work being performed for a client.

Pros

Frankly, IBM is the company that sets the pace for just about all things technology. One of the things that stunned me about the company is how the company pushes the rest of the industry from a technical perspective. IBM is responsible for a vast number of patents, and continues to put money into research and development to dictate what's next.

Cons

I really haven't found any significant downsides. I could claim excessive travel, but that's more about my position than the company. We do have a very positive image throughout the world, and the logo on my business card gets respect.

Pros

Management supports working from home. Good group of people to work with.

Cons

Frequent layoffs. Gradual shift of workers from US to India. Understaffed for amount of work. Poor communication from project managers. Unreasonable project schedules that have just become a joke. No sense of big picture, everything is week to week survival. Upper management seems to be only concerned with profit and their stock options. Difficult to see where you fit in such a large corporation. Can easily have first line manager be in some other geography hundreds of miles away. Working remotely from the main group can leave workers feeling isolated and lost.
