Pros

Training programs were very good. IBM puts alot of money into training for their consultants. It was a good place to work in the begin of my career because they had lots big clients and projects. The system implementation methodologies that they employed was very good and delivery and customer service was key. This served as a point of pride for me because I felt that I could tell people I worked for IBM and it gave me instant credibility. IBM also had a very good mentoring program while I was there. You were assigned to one senior mentor and it was this person's responsibility to make sure you were on the right track.

Cons

There was 100% travel and it was very political

Pros

- Smart and dedicated co-workers - Wide range of options for career progression - Work-life balance - Strong senior leadership

Cons

- Compensation possibly below market. Stock options/grants rarely given. Negligible discount in employee stock purchase plan. - Can be difficult to navigate - Promotions can be slow -- partially related to the fact that there is a lot of good talent. - There seems to be a process for everything -- can get in the way of progress - Constant re-organizations

The company won't be going away anytime soon. Company has cash, so when it decides to fund something, it has the ability to do so. Company tries to offer educational opportunities. Company has many locations. Company offers flexible work schedules.

Cons

Lack of respect for technical talent. Continuous reductions in benefits. Ever increasing amount of uncompensated and unscheduled work. Lack of control/input into technical and business decisions. Continuous task switching for meaningless tasks. Lack of communication from upper level (executive) management about direction and feedback on local performance or local performance goals.
