      Never take a job at IBM unless you are in desperate need of a job.

      Pros

      None at all, in fact the only reason why I took the job was the "wow" factor (back then) associated with the IBM name

      Cons

      - Poor work life balance - Incompetent management from the top down to the bottom - New hires were left to sink or swim - Training for new hires is practically non-existent - Pay is so bad, that your salary would be outpaced by your peers at other companies in just 2-3 years. - Employee benefits were among the worse around. - Taking leave was extremely frowned upon, and people were encouraged to take their laptop with them and check emails on the road. - You are supposed to be "on call" even though you aren't paid for it, on a 24-7 basis.

      Pros

      Very good people throughout the company - far better than IBM deserves.

      Cons

      Sadly, IBM has made alienating its workforce into an art form. People work under continual threat of being laid off, and those who remain watch their benefits erode every year. Every action from upper management reflects their attitude that "human capital" is to be used and then discarded. You are free to dismiss this post as a rant from a disgruntled ex-employee, but mark my words - join IBM and 1) you'll be sorry, and 2) you'll be back here to leave a post identical to this one. Run, don't walk, from this sorry excuse for a company.

      Pros

      An organization in this rapidly evolving industry yet very much relevant for more than 100 plus years, competing with almost every other company emerging from basement to all those well established ones and still meets and beats market expectations while leading with innovations... that defines the industry going forward - That is IBM. So continuous learning, adapting to market changes, customer expectations, keeping up with. getting ahead on evolving strategies, gearing up for what is to come -- sounds intimidating but to me, that is what makes IBM a great employer and a perfect organization to work for!

      If you only one can keep up when you are a kid in a candy shop! There are only 24 hrs in a day!
