Pros

Better healthcare benefits than local employers. Lower copay's and more extensive coverage for a lower monthly premium. Twelve paid holidays per year, six of which are of your own choosing.

Cons

You may have once heard that IBM was a good company to work for. That WAS true a very long time ago. (In the 1940's, 50's 70's and 80's) It is not the case today. Since 1992 IBM has steadily reduced benefits to employees, laid off thousands and has become an extremely difficult employer to work for. Pay raises are virtually non-existant in today's IBM, and if should you receive one, it will be miniscule. Jobs are being off-shored at a record pace. My very own job went to India and I'm out of IBM as a result of it. But why take my word for what I've written? For all anyone who might be reading this knows, I could be a fired and therefore disgruntled former IBM'er. I'm not, I retired with over 32 years of service with the company. The best thing anyone could do, is to find as many former IBM'ers as you can and ask them their opinion of TODAY's IBM. I live in Poughkeepsie New York, an "IBM Town". IBM put this town on the map and there are thousands of current and former IBM'ers here. Now it's difficult to find anyone that will say a kind word about IBM. I'm talking about former dedicated, loyal and true blue IBM'ers that once gladly gave their souls to IBM. Good people that never had a bad word to say about IBM, people that reciprocated by returning to IBM the goodwill and corporate benevolence IBM bestowed upon them. IBM was once a very generous company, but that simply is not the case today. All current and ex-IBM'ers are well aware of this. I realize not everyone lives in an IBM Town like I do. But find as many IBM'ers, or ex-IBMer's as you can, and ask them about today's IBM. I know you'll find their sentiments are the same as mine.

Pros

Work culture, Leaves, Sometimes work life balance

Cons

IBM is a manager centric company, everything depends on your manager & there is no such HR to hear about your problems. So, if your manager is biased then this company is hell. In my case, even after doing so much of work, completing assignments on time without delay, I got Low Performance rating for the two consecutive years. So if according to them, my performance was Low then why did they not release me from the project ? Why my project release date was still 2025. So, it completely depends on your manager & mostly managers are adviced by the Tower Leads. After every Half yearly cycle, the tower leads & other senior management call on a meeting to discuss the ratings with the manager. Ibm's Kolkata DLF 1 tower B location PMI account's tower lead is one of the worst guy. He only knows Politics & how to ruin someone's career. And there is no HR or anything to whom you can complain. Salary is also peanut. You will not get any raise, specially for those who joins IBM India from another company. DON'T join IBM India.

Pros

Some people that have never worked at IBM think IBM is a great company that pays well. If you have excellent people skills/emotional intelligence/ are an expert in corporate politics you might make it

Cons

A lot of cliques. Did I say a lot of cliques? Lots of freeloaders. Lots of people who have been there for decades pretending to do work. Other teams doing the same work as your team with different ways. Lots of favoritism. They layoff like their behind is on fire by the thousands and they lie all the time about their numbers. CEO lies like a professional actor. If you don’t go with the flow you are part of the reduction in force (RIF). Management doesn’t care about you. At first they pretend they like you but turn on you when you have a different opinion or idea to make things better. IBM has too many legacy systems that are outdated and too many processes that are a waste of time. IBM has lots of bullies and managers do nothing to prevent it even if reported. Lack of diversity and inclusion. Most executives and managers are white. There’s lack if respect. Don’t share anything personal. Lots of envy if you share any good news about your personal life.
