Pros

There are many departments and can gain experience in many disciplines. Flexibility is good and engineers are well respected.

Cons

Lincoln, AL is definitely not an exciting place to live. Birmingham is 45 minutes away but there isn't much to do there either. Sometimes they don't challenge the engineers enough. Will do jobs that could be done out of high school.

Pros

- outstanding benefits very cheap compared to other employers I have heard about - 401k matching - easily recognizable name "gold start" on resume so to speak - opportunity to move departments within HMA - discount on Honda & Acura vehicles, as well as, Honda power equipment - tuition reimbursement as long as degree is related to current opportunities and job responsibilities - job security - opportunity to learn how to use Catia - average salary but with the ability to earn paid overtime

Cons

- very little application of technics learned in college - job title is either business _______ or engineer _____ even for those individuals that have no academic background in engineering - most managers have been promoted from within the company - most groups are under staffed especially those related to New Model - The concept that if you are good at your job then they will keep you there. But if you mess up then you will be moved and occasionally promoted. - Few degreed engineers on staff so little direction on how to be an engineer in a manufacturing facility - communication between groups - expectations vs explanation / understanding of tasks - more than likely the majority of your time will be spent behind a computer in excel or PowerPoint. - very little opportunity to move between plants or within the company as a whole - to get any formal training as a whole is more difficult than it should be especially if it is a topic that you are just interested in and doesn't directly relate to your job responsibilities - individuals have a vocal distaste for individuals that have some level of education especially those that are degreed engineers If you decided to become an engineer to make a difference and excelled in class and the technical side of things I would not recommend working here except in a very few select groups and even then you won't be using the technics learned in school.
