Pros
The company has great flexibility in all roles, for work from home. They offer some opportunities for employee rates on cruises. The pay is competitive with other cruise lines, for land based roles.
Cons
There is a lack of leadership and vision in this organization. The vibe of the organization is not focused on the people but exclusively on compliance. There are no benchmarks for success provided to employees and each department is completely siloed, so that it is nearly impossible to contribute in a collaborative or positive way. Promotions are not awarded based on merit and those who are promoted, in many departments, are completely inexperienced and control their employees with fear and micromanaging. The benefits package is not amazing. The review process is superficial and you will not be given any reviewable feedback on your performance, the performance is measured only in terms of the number of pay raises that can be given, not based on merit. Even the teams that are considered the more positive highlights of the company, do not offer true support for the success of their team members. None of the internal stakeholders work together collaboratively. Every department is understaffed with no intention of increasing headcounts to relieve the pressure employees are feeling. The lack of vision, direction, communication and leadership make Holland America Line a very unpleasant work environment.
