Pros

Habitat was an awesome learning experience and a great way to give back to the community. Its more than building houses, it's a place where ppl can feel appreciated regardless of their economic situation. If you are compelled to volunteer on a house, i say do it!

Cons

It's very little pay and no place to 'move up to'. Not for anyone who doesn't have compassion for the less fortunate.

meeting new people who volunteer almost everyday. i worked as an americorp, leading teams of volunteers. a good feeling. qualified for foodstamps, some 3000 dollars educational fund after 1 year.

Cons

low pay as an americorp a lot of work physically draining, not treated as equal by the office staff. no job searching help by the management after 1 year contract ends.

Cons

Because it is a not-for-profit organization, it is difficult to move up in the organization because there is little money available.
