Pros

HSBC is so large and global, one can always find something interesting to do, and if not, it should be possible to build out your own opportunity. If you find an exploited pocket, go for it. Just know that it's unlikely that your efforts will gain you any status in the long run.

Cons

The company lacks a strategy, except to "survive". This means means low risk appetite, poor internal investment, and conservatism & lack of drive. Management flits from plan to plan, leaving those under them to suffer consequences of constant turmoil. Employees should not expect any return (monetary or appreciation or otherwise) for their efforts.

Pros

The major reason that I took the job and stayed in the postion as long as i did was that the pay was great!

Cons

Unfortunately, every day of my life was more miserable than the last. My manager was completely incompetent, and that seemed to be a theme, at least in the mid Atlantic region.

Pros

Being a global company has some great perks, none greater than deep pockets. Even though North America has been hemorrhaging, emerging markets have kept the company going.

Cons

There are no growth opportunities unless you are willing to check in your integrity at the door. Performance uses forced rankings and HR in its infinite wisdom decided that a team of 10 can only have 2 good performers so regardless of actual accomplishments, they are rated low. Promotions, bonuses and raises are based on rating, which is good in theory but in this case just goes to brown nosers.
