Pros

An opportunity to develop good leadership and organizational skills. On the financial end, GTAs receive a full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend depending on the number of work hours.

Cons

The courseload can get pretty hectic sometimes, especially during exam time. Reduced the monthly stipend this year (2016-2017) by nearly 400$.

Pros

Some good principal investigators. Access to good facilities. Industry focused research which is good for career advancement.

Cons

Administration is not helpful. Many of them are under trained. Getting things done in a timely manner requires a lot of energy. If you work for the wrong PI, life will be very difficult. The school administration is interested in minimizing attrition, but not necessarily interested in helping you.
