Pros

Georgia Tech is a great engineering school with lots of opportunity to do research. Some faculty are sincerely interested in helping students succeed but will not baby you. Atlanta is a great city to live with good food, sports, museums, and shows.

Cons

The pay is not great and prospective grad students should be careful who they choose to be their advisor. Parking fees are expensive and food in the dining halls are bad.

Pros

The people are very dedicated at working toward helping students. Students are the primary reason that many of them are there. They could have taken jobs where there are better opportunities, pay and other things, but these people are there to help the students. Atlanta is also a really nice place to work as it is right in the perfect weather area in the south. The weather is good and the people are generally nice. Atlanta is also really good place to do really interesting things. There are museums, shows and the sports venues. Finally, there are many places to go hiking.

Cons

Georgia tech is not the best place in the world if you want to increase ones profile and advance in one's profession. Georgia Tech is also not the best places for communication. The communication between the different departments at the university is less than mediocre. There is a constant sense that everyone exists in their own little shell without any regard to the other departments. Within the departments everything works well enough, but in between, there is little communication. Many people think that working at the university would be a good way to communicate educators, but the campus is too large for that kind of communication.

Pros

It has a good reputation as a research university. A degree from here will (allegedly) get you a long way. The school is well funded, and the professors are well known. Classes are usually very worthwhile and you should be able to learn something new. Professors are given free reign on how they treat their grad students, so it could be a great experience, or the worst of your life. Be careful, and make sure you pick a good advisor or switch within the first year (first semester would be better).

Cons

Very little to do outside of lab. Little sense of community amongst graduate student population (result of no central place to gather). Long and hard work hours, little immediate reward seen. Some professors are no shows, others are constantly on your back, criticizing/attacking your work with pesky phone calls at 3am. Its seriously been known to happen here.
