Pros

General Motors offered lots of flexibility regarding time off/work life balance. My managers were always agreeable when I needed to take time off, however I did not abuse this benefit like some did. The salary was acceptable, nothing great but not bad either. I could have left to get a higher salary but I preferred the better working conditions over a higher salary. The benefits were fairly good as well.

Cons

Unfortunately, there were limited opportunities for promotion (within the Engineering area) due to downsizing. Whenever a manager would leave or retire, they would basically take the people who worked for him/her and put them under someone else, instead of replacing the manager by promoting someone. In addition, the overall automotive sector, especially the US manufacturers, is not doing well. GM/Ford are having a hard time competing due to high structural costs.

Pros

Its a great place to work if you love cars! Being a global company it has many opportunities if you look in the right places.

Cons

The industry is risky, and the company is not too well positioned for the future. Employment is under continuous pressure and it is very difficult to advance unless you are put somehow on a fast track. As a result, general employee motivation and morale is not widespread. Another issue is that most places the company operates are heavily dependent upon it as an employer, so your personal fotune is closely tied with the company.

Pros

Discounts on car. They are also good with letting people take time off. Good discounts on events and good benefits package. Depending on your job, management is pretty much clueless as to exactly what your 'duties' are.

Cons

Management is clueless. They show no appreciation, and give very little information about activities coming downstream. The work environment is very segregated, with visibile minorities sticking with themselves. At times, it becomes very hard to get work done, as people just wonder around drinking tea without really answering any emails or returning phone calls with proper answers.
