Substitute teachers are not treated well. Principal instructs staff to NOT fraternize with sub teachers. Consequently, they avoid you like the plague. Also, especially if you are a substitute of color & are chatting with a teacher of color, somehow, paranoia sets in with the principal & shuts that down . Much unprofessionalism as in introducing ones self, giving instructions , many lessons plans not available causing office personnel to contact teacher for instructions. Had a TA take my folder of instructions & proceed to do the lesson. Attempted to intimidate until she discovered I knew & were friends with a high official in Gastonia married to her cousin and my mother, a well known educator in Gastonia had tutored & friends with the WIFE of the high level law official. It was 5-day assignment. Some schools switch you to multiple assignments during same day like yo u were a rag doll. An asst. principal put her hands maliciously on me. She had a reputation for being OBNOXIOUS. I did a good job, but I think my commanding presence made some uncomfortable & the younger teachers - most are younger - were really snooty. I have a fowl taste ini my mouth. Not anxious to return. Marie Taylor, though does her best. Had times when I showed at the school, signed in, someone came to direct me & minutes later I was assigned to someplace else. I sign up according the subject given on the phone. For example: I signed up for EC & arrived at the school & was redirected to COMPUTER Lab. Three day assignmnt. I told Marie about it & that I WD NOT have signed up for Computer lab because my tech skills were not as sharp as they had been. I sign up for EC, English, Art, Music, Business, PE, Health. Familiar and knowledgeable subjects. & able to give real-life experience information to students. Never science, Math, social studies since I don´t like those subjects.
