Pros

Staff discount at 50% off is great. If you're a student, flexible hours make it easy to still go to school and work at the same time, great coworkers, fun place in general - good energy.

Cons

Corporate management fip flops on a lot of issues, which makes working on the front line difficult, because the message you give customers one day will inevitably change the next. Expect to work long hours& working over the holidays is mandatory. Depending on your store, management can be largely ineffective and don't always provide the leadership necessary to train new employees - this responsibility often falls to other sales associates. If you don't have a management position, forget about any sort of recognition or compensation (i.e., bonus) for a job well done - your management team will gladly take this on your behalf. Slackers and idiots are kept on staff, which means double the work load for those employees who are actually competent and interested in doing a good job.

Pros

Decent benefits, okay salaries. Gap's creative teams are incredibly talented, joining those teams, and working with the people that actually do all the work, make the mid level management BS bearable.

Cons

As a creative, very little opportunity for advancement in the field of your choice. All recognition is taken by the mid level management. Very little respect and recognition given by mid level management to the people that do the work, which degrades employee morale quickly. With all the downsizing over the last few years, Work/Life Balance is decidedly Work heavy.

Pros

Fun oriented company with interesting and creative co-workers. Leaders are willing to let employees take risks. There are some amazing mentors and bosses within the organization.

Cons

Leaders are incredibly hands off when things aren't going well. It can feel like luck of the draw getting assigned to functional departments, mentors and bosses. The good managers know just how bad the bad managers are yet take no action. Middle and upper management spends more time on politics and finger pointing than doing any real work - many leaders are not capable of performing their direct reports roles or giving any valuable coaching/feedback on how to improve.
