Pros

GSK has excellent training for new employees, training is intense and you must be prepared to leave home for minimum 3 weeks. GSK has good products, benefits, budgets, marketing materials, company cars, cell phone, credit card, computer, printer, expense account for supplies for your office and other materials.

Cons

Manage Care is having a big impact in Michigan and some other states. Physician's may like your products/drugs but if the insurance company will not pay for it, he can't use it with his patients and you will lose market share. Many of GSK best products have generic competition or in the case of Avandia (for diabetes), received some bad media coverage which cost the company billions of dollars. In the last 2 years the company has cut jobs 2 times. Rumors are out already they may have another round of cuts, year end 2009. It's not just GSK making cuts, it's the industry as a whole.

Pros

Great pipeline of products and versatile portfolio of products. If you want to move into a specialty sales force position, now is the time. The company is in transition but is trying to be more specialized. They are always looking for talented, hard working sales reps with proven sales success.

Cons

Very big pharma. Not a lot of room to manage your territory as you see fit. Very little say into speakers or speaking opportunities.

Pros

Flexibility - as with any pharma job you basically make your own schedule (although the official hours are 8:30 - 5); decent car selection - Mercury Mariner is a nice little SUV; offer job share opportunities (but they are impossible to get)

Cons

They don't have any loyalty to their employees; no clue what layoffs are based on; 2 day manager ride alongs can be painful. Unrealistic goals. Entire nation doesn't reach goals they set and they MAY lower it so some can actually get paid. GSK's training is really hard and stressful compared to other pharma companies; very passable but lots of memorization and repeating back word for word.
