Pros

The benefits, pay, retirement plan and perks (company car, computer, phone, internet etc.) are second to none. If you want to be a territory level sales representative for the rest of your career this is a great place to work.

Cons

Even after earning multiple tier awards, consistent rankings in the top 20% nationally, regional development programs, training experience and data analyst roles no opportunities for promotion outside of the territory level were available. I was denied multiple opportunities for rotations outside of the territory with no explanation or face to face interaction. Specialty sales positions are filled behind closed doors with no interview process or transparency. My perception as a territory level sales representative was that I would never be able to move into another position no matter what my national ranking or performance reviews showed.

Pros

Excellent training, no hierarchy, supportive culture, excellent products, coaching and sales support, competitive remuneration, great place for working mothers, opportunity for growth and learning, honest and supportive management, excellent diversity

Cons

Opportunities for advancement are limited, and often the choice for promotions appear irrational when viewed in light of candidates' respective backgrounds and achievements

Pros

It's possible to commute from North London to most GSK R&D sites, so you don't have to live somewhere miserable, like in other big pharma R&D departments. Some members of staff are keen to encourage cross-departmental knowledge sharing and collaboration, and there is an internal network to facilitate this. Also lab books were kept electronically, online, and were visible to others. During my internship I was given the freedom to create my own project. I also worked in a group that maintained good links with academia. Some fellow interns even published their projects. Apparently lots of scope to go part time later.

Cons

Regular reorganization leaves some departments feeling empty. The pay doesn't compare to other big pharma R&D departments, and it's expensive to live in north London. There's no atmosphere outside of regular working hours as no one seems to feel the need to work overtime.
