Pros

You can't beat the leadership skills and breadth of experience you can acquire at GE. In a huge, successful, global company like GE, you can get the experience in 1 job that could take you 4-5 jobs elsewhere.

Cons

Change is a constant. While positive change is good, the changes are often wasted energy as a result of constant organizational movements and new leaders marking their territory or making their presence felt.

Pros

Great people, large organization, some training opportunities, technical engagements.

Cons

GE is going through a mess right now; financially/organizationally/leaders jumping ship. The job security is very volatile with leaders being clueless about software (though GE wants to be a software company). Regular layoffs & scramble to find a job inside GE (only will succeed in finding an internal if you know the "right" people not if you have the "right skills"). HR is only looking at every employee as a number, irrespective of ones' skills and achievements. The Detroit location is led by poor leadership and is being looked upon as a money saving opportunity (layoff people or move to a better tax discounted area). There is a lot of effort to ask people to move to Rhode Island or Miami. There was a round of layoff in MI in Nov, 2018 (around 300 people), the only reason given was "we are pulling out of Detroit" (Can you believe it - not due to cost pressures, not due to performance but due to location strategy change???). Local HR is unresponsive to say the least.

Sorry to hear this. GE's going through a lot of change and it is understandably stressful for anyone involved. We're working on moving forward and hope you have a more positive experience in the future.
