Pros

Steady work, 'decent' entry pay, good benefits (if a little expensive, full benefits cost me 1/4 of my paycheck)

Cons

Office has no incentive or interest in actively supporting the field. Requests for season-necessary uniforms(-30F temperatures outside and they made me go to work with short-sleeve shirts and a windbreaker) were at >= 6 months to be processed. Unannounced policy changes such as vacation freeze (or unannounced rollback if you were above new-hire vacation time for your paygrade) (only applicable to non-office personnel). They've been in a 'temporary' pay freeze since 2007, only applicable to non-office personnel.

Pros

I haven't found any as yet

Cons

Since the interview its been a massive catalogue of errors, mistakes, etc etc etc. (even the letter for the interview send me to the wrong place) I didnt think it was possible to mess anything up so much. There is always something that leaves the employee worse of. Threats, massive amount of 'don't know', important employee needs ignored. Loss of earnings as LARGE out of pocket expenses not paid. Change of proceedures constantly. Abuse of good will and openess. Plain lies to cover mistakes of management. Is there a ZERO star option. I have worked in different places and am quite a scholar, but had to get off the dole. I can see what is happening. Everyone has gone greedy, so cutting overheads. But when it goes too far, the government thinks private firms can do it. Not on five pence they cant. If you pay about the minimum wage but want it all .... what happens. Oh you should be happy you have a job .. oh you should be happy you are being abused 0 hour contracts, unhappy staff, kept in the dark, private business does not care at all, it is ran purely on greed nothing more. but will PR it so that it is the most sensitive, caring, thoughtfull thing in the galaxy if it gets it more contracts. The management of the contracts was like putting a bull in a china shop and advertising it as relaxing quiet meditation.

Pros

The work is easy enough for the amount of pay you're given. They have extended training and background checks, so the people they bring in are more competent than other security companies.

Cons

They make you feel like you're supposed to be in the CIA or FBI--due to long hours of mandatory training and written tests monthly--albeit reminding everyone that the only power security guards have are that of a private citizen. The upper management and "lieutenants" (what a poor job title) have an extreme superiority-complex--if you so much as make one mistake, you will be unemployed, due to their cutthroat way of managing. You are forced to work long hours (with no prior notice), from 12-16 hr. shifts, regardless if the schedule has already been posted (even though we were "promised" that it would never happen once they took over the contract). I was flat-out lied to on numerous occasions by upper management as well as district managers. When I would inquire about being misinformed, they would act like they never said anything, and that it was all the subordinate's faults. They make it blatantly obvious that you are not a person with a family and a life, but simply a number working for a huge company that could care less about your well-being.
