Good, short-term launch pad

Pros

Very stable, and great exposure to mechanical, materials, manufacturing engineering, and also well known industry wide amongst direct competitors (GE, Siemens, Emerson etc.). Good people overall, not a 'penny-wise-pound foolish company', and they invest in employees well. A solid career launch but not long term however.

Cons

Less innovation and less open to change with occasional periods of 'flatness' - not progressing much and somewhat frustrating to see their rigidity to come out of their comfort zone and do breakthrough work. There's also a lack of team-work and most people are older/ more mature. Not too many younger folks.

Pros

Good benefits include full health coverage, healthy and safe work environment, and very manageable working hours (7:30-4:00 most days).

Cons

The position I'm currently in has a high turnover rate. Either you are promoted with 2-3 years or you move on to another company. Often times, our customers will hire engineers and pay higher salaries, Flowserve will not match. It seems as if the position is replaceable, which is understandable from a business stand point, but doesn't sit well with employees.

Pros

Work is less hectic some career switches are possible if you find the right opportunity good team members working with business is interesting encourages employees to be inclined towards continuous improvement, invests in training recently investing heavily in new technology systems as current systems are very dated ethical and safe

Cons

not very social, no team outings, no team building, feels like a robot just coming in, doing their work and going home appraisals are like peanuts mainly a male dominated company no flexible timings (8-5 culture) if you are technically inclined, not a company for you as contractors are hired for programming, not much innovation...it is manufacturing company not an IT company no standard/global systems, every site has their own ERP system. data becomes fragmented
