Fitch is OK, but....

Pros

Work environment very relaxed. Benefits are very good; only if you're not married, pregnant or have children. Able to have a life outside of Fitch

Cons

If you're white, pretty/handsome and know how to kiss butt, you'll go very far. Promotions, raises and praise on a job well done have a lot more to do with personality and who you have lunch with, than how good you are at your job.

Fitch - Good place, few caveats

Pros

If you are 45, tired of banking, and want to spend time with your kids, Fitch is the place to be. Its an easy place to work, there arent many requirements at hiring stage etc. Also, most competent analysts leave within their first 18 months, so it doesnt take a lot to use old assumptions to work through, as some one else would have created the models before you.

Cons

Unless you are white, or from London or in some cases from NY, you wont make it to any of the MDs or GMDs for any of the three rating groups - Corporates, Banks and Structured Finance. Compensation is 30% lower than Moody's or S&P. Investors dont prefer Fitch, and its currently number three going towards number four in the industry. Also, its French.

Pros

Good work / life balance Training / Growth Opps Nice colleagues Location - heart of City - although will change soon!

Cons

Compsensation lacks any real clarity - i.e salary in the same job title can differ wildely Pockets of 'dead wood' - especially in snr management Can be a very political environment
