Enough work to choke a donkey

Pros

Great opportunity to hone your management skills. You can be the guiding light for a lot of people, and really develop some great employees. Some fun annual conferences.

Cons

Sub-standard pay for this level of management, and the benefits are ridiculous. No stability as contracts are bid every three years. Complete intrusion into your day from employees that have nothing better to do. Sub-standard yearly raises. Extremely long hours. Communication from external customers that leaves you scratching your head, "did they just say that?" "What planet are they from?" Infrequent support from the schools on discipline.

Pros

Steady wage. Driver's get paid decent hourly rate and have union representation. Most drivers are fun to be around. Drivers have alot of free time to do other things.

Cons

Management more importantly Dispatchers have too much work, too many rules and policies to follow and too much pressure bestowed on them. Dispatchers get no respect from anyone in the company including their managers. The company passes policies just for the sake of having policies. The policies set forth by upper managenment do nothing to help in any situation and just make things harder. As long as the as it does not cost them anything they will have you do things a million times over. Although they preach safety they sacrifice it for money on a constant basis. The company will pass blame whenever possible usually blaming the dispatchers for everything. Location managers are sneaky and unethical and pass all the work down to the dispatchers. Upper management is clueless. They only advance the same useless people that have been around the company for many many years. While the good workers are treated terrible and do not advance. There technology is way behind the times and when they try to catch up they spend on the most useless inept stuff. Offers no or very very little training on anything new needed to learn.
