Pros

Pension, vacation time, benefits, can pay into employee shares if you choose to.

Cons

If you asked me a couple of years ago, I wouldn't have had any cons, but over the last year they got a new President and it seemed like everything for the employees went down hill since then. They had made significant changes on and off over the last year and many people were/are un happy with the approaches they took to accomplish all of their changes. It got to the point where you realize you are definitely just a number to them and they truly do not care about you and will just replace people as they see fit. Within departments, management definitely plays favorites and things will obviously be better for them. They preach inclusiveness and diversity, yet if you are different than their favorites, you will not be accepted. Moving up is based on who you know, not necessarily your qualifications. They preach "One Team", yet consistently demonstrate the opposite and it pulls teams apart and makes teams not work well with each other due to this. Training is basically non existent. There are so many people who refuse to train others on how to do things because they want to keep the information to themselves for job security. Those that are willing to share are not properly trained because they weren't trained properly when they took on the role. It's either that or the only people who can train you don't have the capacity because they are so overworked.

Pros

•Union position with solid base pay plus additional premiums •Scheduled base pay increases every 6 months (up to three increments), which provides clear wage progression •Boot allowance provided, which helps offset out-of-pocket costs •In-house training available, especially useful for skill development and onboarding •Job security and predictable work conditions due to union agreement

Cons

.Employees need their own transportation for commuting, as public transit options are limited •Promotions are very difficult to obtain, even when fully qualified •Due to the union structure, advancement is based primarily on seniority rather than performance or qualifications
