Excellent team chemistry, but no connection to the larger organization
Pros
*My team has great chemistry. They're very smart, hard-working, sharing of their knowledge, and personable. We're able to laugh with each other, but we also come together swiftly to attack and resolve problems with amazing ferocity. *My immediate management is very supportive and accessible. *Work schedules are flexible. My team and immediate management are very willing to work with me when I want time off. *The benefits package is good. From my knowledge of other companies' packages, we're probably middle to upper-middle on the benefits scale. *My work is challenging. Whether it's coding an enhancement or fixing a bug, it's never easy to do within a complex application.
Cons
*I get zero feedback on my performance. *I work as many billable hours as there are available, and I'm required to maintain a certain utilization percentage. I have no control over these hours, but they are used in my performance reviews. *This is a very large organization with many products, but I have no clue what goes on beyond my group. *There is no direction for career advancement. *There are no opportunities for exploring other areas of the company. *Training opportunities are very limited. *Raises are very small even with exceptional performance. In 2008, no raises were given due to a company-wide salary freeze. *I was hired as a telecommuter, but a recent edict from Lee Kennedy (CEO) requires that all employees work from an office. *It takes 3-5 days for my 401k contribution to be submitted. Where is my money and why is it being held? (Yes, this is a nit-pick, but FIS changed payroll systems. The old system submitted my 401k contribution on the same day.)
