Pros

You work for the federal government so there is job security

Cons

You are expected to do the "exact" same work/duties as co-workers earning as much as three times (3x) your pay with no possibility of ever reaching that salary level.

Pros

Professional dedicated workforce. Interesting and dynamic work environment. Advancement is available if you are self-assertive and aggressively pursue it and are willing to relocate.

Cons

Management bureaucracy is frustrating. Just doing excellent work at your job will not get you promoted. You have to drive you own career. Your department will always be short on money until the end of the FY, when you must spend all the funding that you were afraid to spend when it was really needed.

Excellent work life balance, decent salary, good benefits

Cons

bureaucracy, politics, little merit based reward, some managers seem more interested in their own advancement than yours
