Life as an Air Traffic Controller

Pros

Pension, exciting job every day, great co workers, free flight in jump seat, power over all aircraft.

Cons

Working for giant government arm. You are a number. Promotions based on minority status. Blacks, gays, trans, latinos, women all go first. The hours are horrific. You start the week 3-11, 12-8, 7-3, 6-2, and end on a mid shift 10pm to 6am. You will work weekends for the first 15 years of your career. You will work every holiday.

Pros

Most exciting job in the world. Fast paced and full of the most advanced technologies out there. Great pay and benefits. If you have what it takes, there's nothing else like it.

Cons

Schedules can be a bit difficult, especially until you raise your seniority number since most larger facilities are 365/24/7. And training is long and arduous. But otherwise, it's a career for life.

Great Agency

Pros

Great benefits (TSP, health, retirement, etc.), competitive salary, my manager is wonderful - laid back and not a micro-manager

Cons

Very old agency which can be good, but sometimes the systems are antiquated and won't talk to each other.
