Pros

I learned about recruiting although I had no training and was thrown to the wolves as soon as my first day started. Actually, no pros!

Cons

The family in Parsippany will make you feel incredibly uncomfortable and as though you are replaceable material. Some of the rudest people I encountered in my professional career made the job even more miserable. I am pleased to say I now happily work from home, being there made me realize being in a toxic work environment was detrimental to my health. Manager would call and tell me something and hang up rudely. That's how they communicated. Also, yelling at the entire staff if they leave at the end of the workday before filling a position. Forbid having a life outside of that jail disguised as a workplace. Also- they expect you to start early and work late- way late- with the joy of having zero compensation. They don't care if it's illegal- and they certainly don't care about their employees for that matter. They will tell you of perks and benefits you will never see. Compensation is not what you'll think it will be either. Expect to have lots of meetings designed to humiliate you. Then expect to have more meetings to follow up on the hate they give you, interrupting any productivity you won't be able to have as they abuse you verbally. Enter at your own risk. Nepotism prevails at this pathetic and unsanitary poor excuse of a place to work... make that quit of be abruptly let go.

Pros

Little to no experience is needed to get a job there and it will be a good stepping stone to better jobs with much better benefits and pay.

Cons

Each office is an independently owned and operated franchise so most are owned by crude businessmen who care about dollars more than employees or the people that use the staffing services. Because each is a small business, they offer little to no benefits, and they expect you to work anywhere from 45-55 hours per week. They offer little to no training, because the training programs that they have you do independently online, have nothing to do with the day to day operations of the office. The work environment inside the office was very toxic, where tattle tailing on your co-workers was rewarded by the francaise owner and called being a "team player" Outside of the way the businesses are run, the type of people that come to Express for employment are largely people who have trouble finding work elsewhere because of criminal records, poor work history, lack of skills, unreliability, and poor work ethic. In the 2 years I worked there I was yelled at, had clipboards and pens thrown in my face, was threatened with violence, and on my last week there, a guy told me he hopes my mom dies over the phone. Many of the people that would come into the office and we would hook up with good jobs, we would later see on the news or in the paper that they had been arrested for theft, burglary, assault, and even murder. These are not people you want to work with.

Pros

Each office is individually owned and operated , so you get to work with the owner instead of corporate CEO. Office is smaller and everyone works as a team - employees who have been there awhile are usually very helpful. There's a good training program and you learn a lot of useful skills, especially if you are looking to get into HR. I didn't have any staffing experience prior to this so I appreciate them taking a chance on me.

Cons

There's a lot more emphasis placed on sales than I was originally lead on. They discussed how hectic and busy the work can get, and you can never really know until you start but this is something else entirely. There needs to be two of you to get everything done on time and the work requires constant multitasking. You're basically at the mercy of the associates and the clients, which can be frustrating, and there's a plethora of mistakes to be made. I honestly would not recommend this job if you have issues with anxiety - it's not impossible, but the environment is just not ideal. Luckily our office leaves on time everyday, but I end up having to take work home a lot. You almost feel as though you have to make your whole life about Express. I can see how many of the people who came before me did not last longer than a year or so. Also PTO is not great, you have to put in several years before you get more than 5 days.
